Giving in to Temptation

Published by Sarah at 3:36 pm under Crochet Projects, Knitting Projects Edit This

I did so well in January. I vowed that I wouldn’t buy any more yarn until I’d used up some of what I already have, and I stuck to it. In fact, the only temptation I caved in to was to buy a knitting book.

Last night, we headed to Costco to pick up some food and I was confronted by something I was completely unprepared for: knitting sets.

Obviously, any resolve I may previously have had went right out of the window as I was so unprepared for this temptation. At least when I go to John Lewis I know to steer well clear of the haberdashery department so that this doesn’t happen.

The sets were everything a knitter - from novice to time-served, according to the box - needed to knit a matching hat, scarf and bag set. I dashed home and got out the instructions, expecting the three items to be relatively straightforward. Instead, I was introduced to a hat knitter with some very vague explanation of how to use it, a pattern to crochet a zig-zag scarf with no clue how to do that, and a bag that looks incredibly similar to the one I’m already part-way through knitting.

Obviously, I’ll blog about my progress if I ever figure out the instructions that came with this knitting set. This could be a rather steep learning curve - anyone want to join me?!?

Don’t you just wish you could examine the instructions before actually buying the kit? At least you have yarn to make other projects with a pattern you are more comfortable with. How much yarn was actually in the kit and did they have a good range of colours?

The Costco I usually shop at didn’t have any when I was in last night but guess I’ll have to take a look.

Cosco has knitting stuff…I didn’t know that. Did you notice if they had crochet stuff too? I understand completely the will not to buy. I say constantly I’m not gonna buy any more yarn until I use up my stash…then along comes a really good sale, and well…….another bag finds it’s way into my house. lol

    Keep us posted. Good Luck

Flemisa, the sets came in three different colours - black, grey and white tones, pink and beige tones and a blue and green tones set. It was all I could do not to buy all three sets! I can’t quite remember how much yarn there was off the top of my head (I’m away from home at the moment): I think it was 13 skeins, which look roughly 50g each.

Sandy, they only had the knitting sets, nothing else - although these sets do include crochet hooks and the pattern to crochet a scarf, something that’s completely new to me! I’ll need a lot of luck (and probably practice with some old yarn from my stash) to get the hang of that!
