My Knitting Week

Published by Sarah at 7:56 am under Knitting Projects Edit This

Progress has been painfully slow with my knitting recently.

I’m still working on this ever-so-simple tote bag that I started a couple of weeks ago. Front and back panels are done, so I’m working on the straps at the moment and then have to do the gusset and just sew that bad boy up. Being a terribly unadventurous knitter, as I’m still a bit of a newbie so am scared to try things out in case they go horribly wrong, you can’t imagine how excited I was to give moss stitch (seed stitch for my American friends) a try. I know now why my mum used to knit in it so much, it’s lovely, it just looks so nice!

What’s also probably not helping is the fact that I’m still lusting over sewing machines. I think I’ve found the one I want, but I’m going to hold off buying it for the time being. I don’t have anywhere to use it in this apartment, so I’ll wait until we move next month and see what sort of room I have for a sewing machine there.

By mid-February I should also have an idea of whether or not this is just a passing fad or whether I really, really do want a sewing machine.

LOL, lusting after a sewing machine. I lust after yarn, so I know all about the lusting.

I should be finishing a project instead of sitting here on the computer, I’m just not real motivated at the moment.

I’ve knitted and crocheted alot but try newer harder things with crochet over knitting. So…we should side by side and try to encourage each other to attempt new stitches etc. with our needles.

I’m pretty fast when doing just basic garter stitch, but find it slower when purling, and the going back and forth between purl and knit to make the seed stitch, seems very slow to me. Which knitting method are you using?

I forget which is which, but I throw the yarn.

Have a great day, and happy knitting
    Sandy

Sandy, I’ve heard of people “throwing the yarn”, but to be honest I really have no idea what technique I’m using! I just sort of picked it up over the years from what I saw other people doing, so it’s probably a bit of a mish-mash.

My idea with the sewing machine was also very much with saving money in mind. The idea of dressmaking and altering my old clothes sounds very appealing - I just don’t know how hard it will be. I can imagine it to be very difficult, which is probably what’s making me think twice about taking the plunge.

As for the “yak” on my header, well, I never imagined someone would mistake it for that! That certainly did make me laugh, so thank you Pam!
